A short review of book "Microsoft Dynamics Ax 2012 Services"

Saludos from Germany!

Today I have decided at last to make my first blog post! Today it makes 1 year since I decided to move back to Germany to work as Dynamics Ax Developer for a German Microsoft Partner and in this time I really had no time besides work and learning german.

About learning german I can really recomend this book that I ordered at Amazon when I decided to drive to german lands.

But is not about this book I want to speak about today but about Packt Publishing Microsoft Dynamics Ax 2012 Services book.

Microsoft Dynamics Ax 2012 Services

What makes this book special, apart that one of the official reviewers is a spanish MVP guy (José Antonio Estevan), is that in only 196 pages you will get a very clear picture of the services framework offered in Ax 2012.

As we all suppose everything will end up in the Internet and so will happen with the ERP systems that in some cases will move gradually to the Cloud. In most of the cases the system should be able to integrate easily with other systems or modules and also the information and functionality provided by a moderm ERP system should be accesible by another software or devices. Lets speak, for example from mobile phones or tablets.

Microsoft Dynamics Ax 2012 Services provides a clear picture of what you need to know so you will be able to know the difference between AIF Document Services, Custom Services and System Services.

You will be able to create your own Web Services or consume them from Ax. There is also a chapter about the new SysOperation Framework which is due to replace the Runbase Framework. Because Runbase Framework is still available maybe you would be a little lazy to learn the new and "complicated" SysOperation Framework so in this book you will find also a good way to get into it.

Once you have read this book I only can recommend to take at the look at the Microsoft trainning material Course 80416 (Application Integration Framework and Services in Microsoft Dynamics Ax 2012) here you will have a more detailed picture of the AIF Framework that you will need for more complex scenarios.

And that is all for the moment. On our actual projects we are already using the Data Migration Framework so for next post I can describe some of the steps required to make it working focusing on the small problems that could make you lose time.

By the way, I suggest you to take a look at MODUS Consult AG Career Website. We are actually working on 2 bigs projects in Germany and Austria using Dynamics Ax 2012 R2, AIF and of course DMF and we need the best people here with us ;-)
